Sunbreak takes an entirely different approach to care of clients and support for staff.
Teamwork, Self-regulation and Data-Driven Insights are commonplace at Sunbreak

A behavioral focus and foundational imprint in all practices and support provided is what makes Sunbreak Society a uniquely different support organization. This includes every staff member, from HR to direct support. The Sunbreak team has crafted trainings and a strong culture that acknowledges and incorporates the following:


  • Willingness to see and begin to understand behavior is an extension of communication – this includes us, as the staff/support providers. The Sunbreak team values collaboration, problem-solving, and difficult conversations that help everyone grow.

  • Creating a safe environment where everyone can show up, offer input, be acknowledged and ultimately build a connection that allows for vulnerability (where we become better together through self-awareness, self-accountability, and teamwork).

  • Sometimes behavior comes out of nowhere and it is not there for us to take personally or become reactive, rather take a step back – breathe – and contemplate what that person needs to find their way back to a regulated state. The Sunbreak team has crafted several trainings and simulations for all staff to grow and gain confidence in co-regulation.

  • Support begins with the support of staff – training, check-ins, oversight (modeling and coaching) – reducing burnout and turnover. The Sunbreak structure is thoughtfully designed to assist those choosing a career in this field, to build skills, gain foundational understandings of human behavior, and evolve as a professional in this field.

  • Listening to our clients and their families – this is key – the team supporting an individual needs to back one another up and maintain consistency with supports. This requires checking in, having difficult conversations, collaborating, and compromising to best meet the needs of those we serve.

  • Appreciation and value – Sunbreak’s founders and directors understand how challenging this career path can be and appreciation of those showing up and facing the challenges with grace, compassion, and integrity are deeply appreciated and valued – Sunbreak does not have anything without those providing the day-to-day support and we are committed to being observant, identifying those stellar folks, and providing gestures of deep appreciation.

  • Sunbreak Society has thoughtfully chosen systems, softwares, and operations with an intention of building a culture of safety, support, integrity, and compassion accompanied with a willingness to evolve as a professional.
